Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is a unique and scenic safari destination located in northern Kenya, known for its rugged semi-arid landscapes, dramatic riverine forests, and rich concentration of wildlife adapted to dry conditions. The reserve is bisected by the Ewaso Ng’iro River, which acts as a vital water source attracting animals such as elephants, crocodiles, and hippos. Samburu is especially famous for its rare northern species collectively known as the “Samburu Special Five,” which include the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx, making it distinct from other safari destinations in Kenya. Visitors also encounter predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, alongside diverse birdlife. Cultural interactions with the Samburu people, who are closely related to the Maasai, add a rich cultural dimension to the experience. With its wild, less crowded setting and unique wildlife, Samburu National Reserve offers an authentic and unforgettable safari adventure.
